kāruhiruhi - pied shag (Phalacrocorax varius)

With distinctive black and white plumage and striking eyes, the Pied Shag is often seen in coastal areas of Aotearoa. As comfortable in the water as it is in the air, it feeds on fish, crustaceans, and other small aquatic animals.
